Final Race Day New Set Of Challenges

Friday 31st January

Race Day 5 sponsored by Sea Hawk Paints for the interCaribbean Airways & Pure Grenada Sailing Week

The final day of racing commenced under challenging wind conditions but for opposite reasons then the previous days racing. At 8:45hrs, wind speeds were recorded at only 2 knots presenting sailors with a test of patience and skill as light winds threatened to delay the morning’s racing. At 8:50hrs, the decision was made to delay the start by 10 minutes due to low wind and a delay in laying the start mark. The first warning signal for Race 1 was given at 9:05hrs, with the Multihull Class leading the day’s racing on Course Blue 5. Wind conditions fluctuated between 2 and 6 knots, resulting in a short postponement before the Classics and Simplified Classes. The rest of the classes followed in succession, with all but Getaway from the Beach Cats class starting.

The motorboat Mojito reported a man overboard from Apex (Beach Cat Class). The crew member was safely retrieved and rejoined the race upon approval from the James Benoit, Race Officer.

The second round of starts began at 11:00hrs with CSA2, followed by CSA1 at 11:05hrs. The wind picked up to 16 knots, allowing for a competitive start. CSA1 saw Category 5 cross the line first. Light rain appeared but cleared within ten minutes giving all crew members a cooling down.

The start sequence for the second race of the day commenced at 12:45hrs, with Classic and Simplified classes. All clean starts other than the Multihulls who had a premature start so had to return to the start line.

The final race of the regatta saw CSA1 starting on Course Blue 4 at 1:45hrs, with six of seven boats starting (Kialoa III DNS). CSA2 followed on Course Blue 1 at 2:00hrs, with seven of eight boats starting (Dandelionhaving retired earlier).

There was a flurry of protests out on the water due to a combination of possible unsafe manoeuvres hindered by the wind conditions and a collision was recorded. The results saw two protests upheld, leading to disqualifications.

The final day of InterCaribbean & Pure Grenada Sailing Week 2025 concluded with a celebratory prize-giving ceremony at Prickly Bay Marina.
