Tuesday 23 January 2024, Pure Grenada Sailing Week Board gathered at Prickly Bay Marina to unveil the prestigious trophies for the overall winners of each class for the tenth edition of this Caribbean Sailing Association affiliated International Regatta.

Petra Roach, CEO of Grenada Tourism Authority, Pure Grenada attended to watch the unveiling, along with other honoured guests.

The much-admired trophies are to scale, handmade, wooden models of Carriacou Sloops in honour of the boatbuilding heritage and the 50 Independence Anniversary. Five prestigious Sponsors made the wish of Pure Grenada Sailing Week Board come true in being able to offer these much sought after model boats. A special thank you to Silversands Grenada, Silversands Beach House, Turbulence Ltd, Six Senses La Sagesse and Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina.

Brian Sylvester, Chairman of Pure Grenada Sailing Week welcomed and thanked everyone for attending and for their support of the sailing regatta especially Title Sponsor, Grenada Tourism Authority. Brian emphasised that this edition of the event is about sailing, but it is also about our tradition, history and our 50 Anniversary of Independence. Although the regatta falls just before the main Independence celebrations, it is also the 10 edition of Grenada Sailing Week (2013 was the first edition). Grenada Sailing Week in its new format, was created after the previous Board could no longer continue running two major sailing events.

The sailing industry and community within Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique is a close one and due to this the Pure Grenada Sailing Week brings many marine related businesses together in support of the sport, industry, and event. Many boats from islands within the Caribbean as well as further field take part in the regatta. The 2024 edition has already attracted 39 boats, nearly 300 crew from 11 countries.

This year’s edition will also see the first feeder race from Barbados to Carriacou with 3 racing boats already registered, 2 of which have registered for Pure Grenada Sailing Week, and we hope the other 1 will follow suit.

With special thanks also to the 4 Race Day Sponsors, Island Water World, Mount Gay Rum distributed by Bryden & Minors, Clarkes Court Boatyard & Marina and Sea Hawk Premiere Yacht Finishes.
