The interCaribbean Airways & Pure Grenada Sailing Week 2025 officially launched earlier today at the Prickly Bay Marina. Ariel Roberts, Co-Manager for Grenada Sailing Week, shared key highlights of the event schedule, which promises to captivate sailing enthusiasts and spectators alike:
- Sunday, January 26: The regatta begins in Carriacou with the Welcome & Opening Ceremony party, coupled with the prize-giving for boats that participated in the ‘Rum to Spice’ feeder race from Barbados as part of the Barbados Sailing Week program.
- Monday, January 27: The first day of racing commences with courses around Carriacou. – Tuesday, January 28: Sailors race from Carriacou to Grenada, marking an exciting inter-island leg.
- Tuesday, January 28: Sailors race from Carriacou to Grenada, marking an exciting inter-island leg.
- Wednesday, January 29: The debut of the all-new Light Keel Boat class (under 28ft) adds a fresh dynamic to the regatta.
- Thursday, January 30: Competitive racing takes place “around the cans” off Prickly Bay in the south of Grenada.
- Friday, January 31: The final day features races off Grand Anse Beach, providing a spectacular vantage point for onshore spectators.
Each evening, vibrant parties at premier venues will ensure the social side of the regatta shines, including The Original Slipway in Carriacou, Le Phare Bleu Island Fever Lawn, Port Louis Marina Victory Bar & Restaurant, and the grand “It’s a Wrap” party at Prickly Bay Marina.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Brian Sylvester, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Grenada Sailing Week, extended a warm welcome to guests and unveiled hand-crafted Carriacou Sloop models by Clyde ‘Dust’ Frank, a master boat builder from Petite Martinique. Clyde Frank, through his creative lab X Yard, continues to honour Grenada’s maritime heritage by blending
traditional craftsmanship with modern design. These models will serve as prizes for the Overall Class Winners in each racing category.
Mrs. Kirl Hoschtialek, COO of the Grenada Tourism Authority, expressed her excitement about the event, emphasizing its cultural and economic significance. She acknowledged the authority’s pride in serving as Co-Title Sponsor alongside interCaribbean Airways.
Mr. Trevor Sadler, CEO of interCaribbean Airways, highlighted the airline’s enduring partnership with the Spice Isle. “We are thrilled to support this extraordinary event that embodies the essence of the Caribbean’s maritime traditions.”
Event Co-Manager, Nikoyan Roberts, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the many stakeholders who have made this event possible, noting that “collaboration among public and private sector partners has been key to achieving our shared vision of cultural preservation, youth engagement, and sector development.”
