The Victory Bar in Camper and Nicholsons Port Louis Marina played host to this year’s Island Water World Grenada Sailing Week 2018 media launch on 11 January.
As well as media, sponsors and volunteers were invited to share in this briefing. Regatta Manager Karen Stiell, introduced the first speaker, Patrick Brathwaite, Chairman of the GSW Board who put a strong focus on the volunteers, saying the event could not be pulled off without people giving up their time. Andre Patterson, Sales Manager of Island Water World, title sponsor for the regatta, acknowledged the record number of entries – 43 to date, saying his company was happy to be out there supporting this challenging and empowering event.
Karen went on to introduce Nikoyan Roberts, Manager, Nautical Development of Grenada Tourism Association, who said the GTA team were delighted to be an Associate Sponsor and have supported Grenada’s keelboat regatta for 25 years, including the most recent 6 under the Grenada Sailing Week banner. She congratulated Grenada Sailing Week on growing what has become a significant, international event, showcasing ‘Pure Grenada’ and celebrating the racing and boat building traditions of this Tri- Island state.
Brian Sylvester of Bryden and Minors, distributors of Mount Gay Rum, hopes to continue the long standing bond of sailing and friendship his company has had with competitive yacht racing in Grenada. This sailing week is one of the one hundred and two regattas Mount Gay supports globally. Charlotte Bonin of Camper and Nicholsons Port Louis Marina, one of the two host venues for the event, said they were delighted to be back on board and very happy to see some of the RORC boats that had crossed the Atlantic and arrived at the marina in December, decide to stay to take part in Grenada Sailing Week.
Finally Karen Stiell thanked all the speakers and everyone for coming. The enthusiastic and committed group that attended the briefing enjoyed light nibbles served by The Victory Bar, wine sponsored by Renwick and Thompson and Mount Gay Rum sponsored by Bryden and Minors.
