Those who raced in the Island Water World Grenada Sailing Week 2016 participated for many reasons. They came from the cold northern countries to enjoy the warm sun, sea and sand. To dance the night away at the hot parties, move to a different musical rhythm and enjoy a genuine Caribbean welcome. They came to try out their racing boats and crew at the beginning of the racing season and to meet new and old racing colleagues, but most of all they came to respond to the regatta’s invitation to “Spice it up on the lovely island of Grenada!”
This year strong winds and big seas were not enough to deter sailors from Antigua, Barbados, Grenada, St Lucia, Trinidad, the UK, the USA, France and Mexico, adding a dose of adrenalin to the racing experience and making that after race cold beer or rum at the three regatta host venues even more enticing. The boats started at the Grenada Yacht Club in St Georges, then raced around Point Saline to Secret Harbour Marina and ended up at Prickly Bay Marina. Four competitive days of racing, split by a relaxing lay day, with Grenada’s excellent talent providing lively music for the six nights of parties at which all were welcome, featuring Matthias & Friends, DJ Nature Boy, Fahrenheit Band, Soul Deep, Barracuda, Tivoli Drummers and Mystik.
